According to Jyoti she will celebrates this years Dashain with the Nepali brothers and sisters at Canada. Jyoti is going to Canada for attending a programme after her arriving from the Korea. Nepali folk songs with complete sincerity, honesty and devotion. The singers were poor, unkempt, shabby looking but yet they poured their heart out passionately with their music. And they looked happy and content while doing it. Their makeshift live concert filled the otherwise ordinary narrow mall lane with music, giving the place a unique character. The Nepali sarangi they romanced, is a small musical instrument but can do big wonders if right strings are pulled. A cheap but stylish handkerchief is laid on the road where people donate money if they are touched by the songs. Sadly, most parted with a paltry Rs.10 note. It made me think how people perceive and reward art. Give the same singer a polished platform and good marketing and people will pay exorbitant amount to hear them. Next time you are in Darjeeling, pls. keep aside at least half an hour to hear them. And pay up at least Rs.100. Especially if you are taking their pictures and videos. They deserve it! With this thought, I sat next to them , on the road, closed my eyes as my soul transported to heaven.
Nepali music, I figured out art is everywhere on the street. You just need to pause, observe and appreciate.
About : I was staying in the valley facing Parklane Hotel near the mall in Darjeeling. I made several uphill hike up the mall for 2-3 days just to pause and hear these divine Nepali singers. For me, they are the best ‘attraction’ of Darjeeling. Sadly they were largely ignored by the many self absorbed vacationers. People walk past by , some just give them a glance, some are indifferent and some are totally mesmerized. I fall in the last category. I cant understand a single word but still I was moved by the soft music. (Can someone pls. help me translate this song and its lyrics?)
Once I got back home, I googled to discover that this song is the very popular “Mohani Lagla Hai” from Nepali movie “Chino” starring Shiva Shrestha, Bhuvan KC, Sarmila Malla, Kristi Mainali, Tulsi Ghimire, Subhadra Adhikari and Sunil Thapa. Original singer : Narayana Gopal.

It’s rather interesting that Holy Mother Church has directed that not only is the first day of the new year a Marian Feast (Mary, Mother of God) but that it is also a Holy Day of Obligation (which means that all Catholics are required to attend Mass on the 1st day of January). We like to look at this not so much as an “obligation” (which carries a negative connotation in our secular world) but rather as an opportunity for starting the secular year right … by attending Mass and thanking God for His many graces, especially that of giving us the Blessed Mother as an advocate, role model and intercessor.On the very first day of every new year, January 1st, the Church appropriately honors the Blessed Virgin Mary with a Marian feast day and a Holy Day of Obligation. And the title by which she is honored on this day is also the first Marian dogma defined by the Church: Mary, the Mother of God. Today we celebrate the Motherhood of Mary as the vessel through whom the Second Person of the Holy Trinity, Jesus Christ, took on a human nature. This feast day also appropriately falls on the 8th day after the Nativity of Our Lord, or on the final day of the Octave of Christmas.
Many non-Catholics have a problem with Mary being called the Mother of God. But we must remember, especially on this feast day, that Mary’s title as Mother of God is not only an ancient one officially given to her by the early Church, but also that the title says more about Jesus than it does about Mary. In fact, this title of Mary was given precisely in order to reinforce the teaching on Christ’s nature handed down from the Apostles—that Jesus was truly God and truly man—in the face of a heresy that threatened it.Mary was called the Mother of God from very early in the Church’s history. One of her earliest titles in the liturgy is Theotokos which translates “God-Bearer”. From this title she began to be called “Mother of God”. Among those who objected to this title was Nestorius, whose false ideas on the nature of Christ is labeled Nestorianism. Nestorius claimed instead that Jesus was born of Mary as human and not as Divine, thereby doctrinally dividing the nature of Christ. St. Cyril defended the title by affirming with the Church fathers that Mary did indeed give birth to the Second Person of the Holy Trinity, who is called Jesus, who is simultaneously and completely both God and man from his birth. The Council of Ephesus (431 A.D.) was called to settle the dispute between Nestorius and St. Cyril. The council rightly affirmed St. Cyril and declared Nestorius a heretic.

They made sure to also include a shot of Stephanie with their twins, Leo and Chloe.

To top it off, they used their location to the fullest by using the Eiffel Tower as a backdrop for part of the time-lapse (that's right, they live in France). Many people do really cool pregnancy time-lapse videos where they take daily photos and string them together to showcase the baby bump growing overtime. This couple, however, took it to the next level and added so much into their video that it tops most, if not all, other pregnancy time-lapses. At one point, Stephanie is seen holding a balloon and appears to be sucking the air out of it. As she does, it looks like the air is going into her stomach. Once the balloon finally deflates, the babies are ready to be brought into the world. Definitely one of the coolest ideas I've ever seen. Watch the video below to see the awesome time-lapse.

Who would have thought apparel brands in India would be our answer to Germaine Greer? But it seems that the fashion brand Anouk, which made an ad on the rights of to-be-mothers in the workplace, has started a trend. Because yet another advertisement has been released by yet another apparel brand—this time, Biba—which while selling clothes also tries to serve as a homily on women’s emancipation.The Biba ad shows a dusky woman sitting in front of a mirror in an ornate salwar kameez sighing heavily and putting on gold earrings—her complexion is important because the casting of a dusky model usually only means that a brand is trying to be different. The woman’s father enters the room and asks her to get ready quickly and come downstairs as the to-be groom’s family is waiting to meet her. She turns to her father and asks her how she can decide to get married to someone by simply feeding him a plate of samosas. (A worthy question because that’s a sure shot way of ensuring the groom gets a cardiac arrest.) The father simply asks her to hurry up and leaves. Cut to the two families chatting and sitting around a coffee table. The groom’s family says that they really like the to-be bride and ask if they should consider the rishta settled. But the father of the prospective bride says they have to visit the groom’s house to see whether the boy can cook and do household chores. Because only if he can, will they ‘give’ their daughter to the boy’s family. Because their daughter can’t marry him if he can’t cook or do any household chores. The to-be groom’s mother says he can barely make a packet of noodles. To which the father of the bride replies that then they can’t get married as she can’t live on noodles (which is odd, because since she has all limbs intact, she could always make samosas and eat them). The groom-to-be then says that he’ll learn to cook in 10 days, and then they can come to the boy’s house, ‘ladka dekhne’. Everyone smiles adoringly at each other. And the last frame of the ad reads—Change Is Beautiful.
